‧。my sea teacher journey。‧

ONE TEACHER,
TWO COUNTRIES,
COUNTLESS LESSONS

Hi there! Welcome to this tiny, cozy corner of the internet—where an introvert like me shares my not so very introverted adventure in Indonesia! You’re probably wondering how I ended up here. (Well, same.) But before we dive into that, let me introduce myself properly.

I am Mary Roselyn Regalario Eboña, a Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in Science student from Universidad de Sta. Isabel de Naga Inc.—an ordinary teacher on an extraordinary journey! From the Philippines to Indonesia, I defied boarders and joined the Pre-Service Student Teacher Exchange in Southeast Asia and became an international teaching intern at Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ). Through the SEA Teacher Program, I traded my quiet routines for a whirlwind of new experiences, new people (so many people), and new lessons—some I taught, but many more I learned.

This little space is where I’ve gathered the pieces of my adventure: the joys of teaching, the frets of lesson planning, the wonders of Indonesian culture, and the small but significant moments of personal growth. If you're a fellow educator, a future SEA Teacher, or just someone who enjoys stories about stepping out of your comfort zone, I hope you find something here that resonates with you.

So, whether you’re here to read, learn, or just quietly lurk (a kindred spirit, I see), welcome. Whoever you are, I hope you find something useful or inspiring here. Let’s explore this learning adventure together!

Terima kasih dan selamat membeca! (Thank you and happy reading!)
more about ME

ABOUT THE sea TEACHER program

The Pre-Service Student Teacher Exchange in Southeast Asia, also known as the SEA Teacher Program, is an international teaching internship that provides pre-service teachers the opportunity to experience teaching in another Southeast Asian country. This program promotes cultural exchange, professional development, and a deeper understanding of global education systems, helping future educators broaden their perspectives and refine their teaching skills in a diverse learning environment.

The SEA Teacher Program is initiated by the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) to enhance the teaching competencies, cultural awareness, and international collaboration of pre-service teachers across Southeast Asia. Established in 2016, the program assigns student teachers to partner schools in another SEAMEO-member country for one month, where they engage in observation, classroom assistance, and actual teaching practice. The program also encourages participants to immerse themselves in local culture, fostering deeper cross-cultural understanding and collaboration.

The First Pages of My SEA TEACHER STORY

This section captures all the firsts—my first flight as a SEA Teacher, my first glimpse of UNJ, my first taste of Indonesian culture, and the mix of excitement and nervous energy that came with it. From airport goodbyes to stepping into a whole new world, this is where the adventure truly began!

Me at the NAIA to fly to Indonesia. I was absolutely scared about the process but it turned out to be okay. Thankfully, my baggage weight did not exceed the limit lol.

Here we are, all the Filipino exchange students, sharing a hastily prepared performance. We sang 'Ako ay may Lobo' and 'Kahit Maputi na ang Buhok ko."

The Santa Isabel College is one of the oldest colleges in the Philippines and in Asia.

We met Najwa and Sasa, exchange student-teachers from Indonesia. They're super kind! I wish we got to spend more time with them.

Finally stepped in the grounds of UNJ. The view was breathtaking (ignore the trashcan lol).

We rested at the Santa Isabelle College of Manila before going to the airport. The buildings looked grand and historical, it felt as if I was going back in time.

This is me awkwardly posing for a picture in front of UNJ.

My first time on an airplane! It was both exciting and terrifying. My ears hurt because of the change in pressure during the takeoff and landing.

This is my ID in UNJ. The design looks cool so I loved wearing it. We can also use this to pay for our bus fares– just tap it on a thingamajig beside the driver and voila! I wish we can have this in the Philippines since it is very convenient.

Ahhh here's me introducing myself in Indonesian language. Thanks to Zen, my student buddy, for helping me with my translation and pronunciation.
